What is a Manufacturers' Representative?

A Manufacturers' Representative is an organization that provides cost effective sales services to manufacturers and other companies that have products or services to sell. For most companies, it is not practical to hire salespeople to cover the entire country or world. A Manufacturers' Rep will have multiple companies products to offer to customers. This allows them to offer more value to the customer by addressing multiple needs during a sales visit and is much more cost effective than a factory sales person who can only sell one product. Manufacturers' Representatives are generally very experienced with the products they sell, the territory they cover, and the customers in that territory. They enable the manufacturer to control the costs of selling because the sales rep only gets paid if there is a sales. This makes the cost of sales a fixed percentage of sales and allows companies to manage their costs.
